Little Bit of Everything

So much to write about! I've started to write several times. But this adorable human being comes up and distracts me every time. I don't even know what all needs to be said. So I apologize if I repeat myself.

Juliana is growing, growing, growing. She loves to play with Ty, chat with Teddy, tend to her baby dolls, dance and read as well as help us with whatever she can. One ritual for is to feed Ty and she loves to help me make pancakes. She says tons of things, has amazing upper body strength and has been pooping in the potty really well for us. We have no problem getting her to go.

Here she is at 20 months.

Baby #2 is been moving around harder. I've noticed movement since about 13 weeks. But with the growth comes harder kicks and jabs. Super cute. I try to get belly pictures like I did with Juliana. But it is not as often, I was able to do hers once a week. Juliana likes to join in on the pictures too. So cute!

Ty even likes to get in on the pictures! I love it!

Weeks 13, 20 and 25

Ultrasound of Baby #2, we even got some 3D pictures.

I had a visit yesterday with the doctor. Juliana came in with me. So obviously she is too young to know but she did get to hear the little ones heartbeat. It was 156, that is the usual beat for this one. Stays pretty consistent. I measured at 25. I've gained quite a bit in the last couple months ....like 10 pounds... errr. We have another appointment in three weeks for my glucose test plus another ultrasound. They want to remeasure the femurs.

Other than that we have just been keeping yourselves busy. Matt got Juliana's room painted and has also been working on putting details together for a garage. I still need to get a picture of that.

I became an Usborne consultant in September and love it!

Our Sick Princess

Our sweet princess as been sick today! Poor girl. She has no idea what she is doing half of the time. To help try to bring some fun to today I let her lick the spatula. Juliana sure enjoyed that and it helped cheer her up!

Relay For Life

This post is long over due...I was being lazy about transferring the pictures off my phone, after I started the post. So it sat for a bit. Haha.
Yesterday was a GRAND day! Matt and Juliana came to visit me at work. How great is that?! So after they visited me, the elders and a few other staff we fed the ducks. It was so fun and Matt had her dressed so cute!

After I got off I ran out by the lake to see Relay for Life real fast. I had purchased a light up from their fundraiser. Nothing big but something to let Janet know we think of her and miss her.

It was a beautiful night to be out by the lake!

Celebrating Breastfeeding Week

Today was the last day of World Breastfeeding Week. The theme for this year was "Let's make it work". It aims to not only bring awareness to breastfeeding mothers but specifically to working mothers. It's a tough road for mothers in the workforce. Pumping in itself is hard. Then finding the time and support can also prove to be a challenge. Offering a little encouragement and support can be a world of difference for those struggling.

I know I am thankful for those who have and continue to support me. Never did I think I would or would be able to go as long as I have. Nor did I think I would be pregnant and still nursing/pumping for my little one at 18 1/2 months. Some people told me I would not have enough milk with working. I was so worried. But that is absolutely untrue! You can make it work! And the benefits are huge for both the child and mother so why wouldn't you want to.

I know of the challenges mommies face. Our breastfeeding journey was not easy. If you have read any of my other posts, Juliana would not latch for the first five and half weeks after birth. We tried everything, people would tell me this or that and often times it felt like people thought I wouldn't be able to do it.

On top of that the pump I had was not effective for me. Every mommy is different and pumps work differently for each mother. Some moms can't even pump but can nurse. Pumping proved to be a huge bump in the road for us. I struggled for five and half weeks to get milk for my daughter. My mom tried to be helpful but only made me feel worse. I felt like a failure but never did I give it up. Juliana was patient. There were a couple nights I cried and wondered how I was going to make it when I went back to work. But I have an amazing husband and he helped me through everything!

After five weeks my husband suggested trying a different pump as others had suggested. We went and got a manual pump. That worked like a charm for me. Although it is not as convenient as an electric and it is a lot of work it does the job well. I got nine ounces right away. Quickly I was able to build my stash and pump about 60 ounces a day with nursing Juliana.

It was about that time I had a wonderful professor who reached out and said maybe I should try craniosacral therapy to help her latch. The first few calls were unsuccessful, we couldn't find someone. With my mom hounding me to find someone, we finally did and they got her in right away. She latched within 24 hours. It was amazing. I could see the instant relief in her face when they examined her and adjusted the spots. She had been out in three places around her jaw and ear area. The therapy is just simple gentle pressures. I would definitely recommend it even if nothing appears to be wrong with your little one.

Our breastfeeding troubles didn't end there. A few weeks after going back to work I had terrible pain and fevers from infection. One breast was so sore from the chaos of trying various electric pumps (one was an improper fit). There was a huge crack that bleed every time I pumped. Several times I got nearly straight blood in my bottle. I think I measured about 2 oz of pure blood.

Pumping consumed my life. I pumped every two hours 24/7. All anybody heard was "it's time to pump"... pump, pump, pump. It has gotten better. Like I said Juliana is 18 1/2 months and I am still able to provide breastmilk for her. I've been able to supply milk for eight babies (temporary, part-time and full-time) throughout our journey.

So if you are a momma struggling to provide breastmilk for your baby hang in there. It does get better. It may not be easy but align yourself with supportive individuals and you will get there. I promise! And don't be afraid to reach out!

Potty Training

Juliana is doing so good at potty training. She seemed interested shortly after her first birthday but there wasn't any consistency. This past summer the babysitter has really helped to be consistent for her. Now she tells us and goes all the time. Yay for her!

Update: Today she even pooped in the toilet!!! She is getting so big!

Hardworking Daddy

It has rained a lot the last few weeks. So Matt has had a hard time finishing his project. He spent several hours digging this trench, where the pool will set. Then because of the rain he had to wait for it to dry out again. The other night he was able to get out there and do some more. He is such a great daddy and husband. Matt works so hard for us.

Juliana loves watching daddy!

13 weeks

13 weeks with baby #2

This pregnancy has it similarities... but is so different. I feel like I have more cravings this time around. Any type of sweets are high on the priority list. And although I ate some sweets with Juliana I ate tons of vegetables, salads and cheesy scrambled eggs. Also morning sickness seemed to be more manageable and didn't last as long with Juliana.

13 weeks with Juliana

I'm glad that I don't have to worry about decorating a nursery this time around, or school. I can concentrate more on the joys of pregnant. Not that it wasn't enjoyable with Juliana, I just always had a list of things to get done. It was rush, rush, rush. Now on my days off I can enjoy it a little by doing housework, organizing and hang out with Juliana and just do mommy things. All the things I LOVE to do.

Yes we do have a list of projects to do (like painting Juliana's room) but I don't feel as rushed to them. And I also have extra time to spend to plan the arrival of this sweet peanut. I didn't really have that last time. I've already looked more into the local resources (I didn't know was available last time) such as doulas, hypnobirthing classes, etc.. Yay for us! Hopefully things will go more smoothly this time around.
